Back To School Money Saving Tips

 

Take Inventory of Supplies and Clothing

Take the time to go through your cabinets and drawers (if you're like most people you have a junk drawer or two). Go through old backpacks that might be in the garage or closet to see if there are any supplies that are reusable this year. Have your kids go through their current clothing to find out what still fits, as those clothes can remain part of their new school year wardrobe.

 

Do Your Homework

Get the list from your child's school and classroom well ahead of time, so you have plenty of time to plan this out. Most stores with school supplies will most likely have your child's list handy. If you have more than one child, make note of any supplies they all need so you can buy those in bulk.

 

Check Prices Online

Before You Shop Start with Amazon, Groupon, Google, Pricegrabber, and any other online shopping sites you may use. However, don't forget to try the facebook marketplace and apps like LetGo and OfferUp to see if anyone is selling any clothing or supplies that your kids could use.

 

Plan Ahead Which "New" Items You Will Buy

The more clothing you buy used, the more you can afford to spend on the "new" outfits and supplies for your kids. Not everything has to be brand new to be exactly what they need.

 

Don't Forget to Check Goodwill, Outlets, and Thrift Stores

Bring your supply and clothing lists with you and take the time to check local thrift stores, outlet malls, and Goodwill for any items you can check off your lists.
